After 15 months of delay caused by the Coronavirus emergency, from 3 September 2021 the Central Market of Milan is finally open (via Sammartini 1 at the corner with piazza 4 Novembre). Investment costing 18 million euros and which gave 400 people the opportunity to return to work, the market was born in the city as a true symbol of rebirth and hope . The entrepreneur Umberto Montano in collaboration with the Human Company group wanted to give the city an island of pleasure inside the Central Station : and after Florence (2014), Rome (2016) and Turin (2019), now Milan also has its own jewel of taste.
Spread over two levels, the space of the Central Market in Milan measures 4500 square meters and allows visitors to take a culinary journey thanks to the 29 artisans present with specialties and fresh quality products, such as eggs, milk and organic yogurt (here the list of the restaurants of the Central Market of Milan ). As soon as you enter the entrance you are enveloped by an explosion of scents: Savini’s truffles , Joe Bastianich’s burgers , the refined (as well as good) fish pastries at the Fish Bar are just some of the delicacies that populate this paradise for palate. Chickens, hams, cakes : the market with its colors looks like an art gallery. In addition, there is no shortage of specialized beverage shops where you can satisfy your thirst, like Flavio Angiolillo’s cocktail bar where the drinks are really creative or the Moretti brewery.
The Central Market is not only a place in which to consume products and buy them, but also a bright and creative environment and a space for aggregation and socializing in which to relax and socialize, and this is its added value: combining food with conviviality and to culture. Inside, in addition to shopping in the various stands and at the Organic Market, you can participate in events in the appropriate area (for info and registration call 02 37928400 or write an email ) or participate in various activities (including the school cooking ), but also listening to good music thanks to the radio laboratory born under the artistic guidance of Alessio Bertallot.
The Central Market project was born with the mission of making the city grow through an urban redevelopment process. This space comes to life within the former commercial area of the west area of the Central station . The former abandoned offices today are the ground where you can take a food and wine journey in which to discover new scents and colors. “Urban redevelopment, explains the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala , is a process of fundamental importance:” the choice of this space is part of the desire to take back this disused area because regenerating spaces means taking possession of those parts of the city where there is no longer a master ».
This project is a clear sign of hope for the whole city that year after year is committed to giving its citizens a better surrounding environment in which to live. The skilled hands of the artisans of the Central Market are waiting to see their shops populate with those voices and that din that has been so lacking in the last two years. Open 7 days a week from 7 am to midnight , the Central Market is one of the new reference points for gastronomy and socializing in the city.
